Home of the shy Sitatunga
Situated in the very heart of the wetlands of the Okavango Delta, the 60 000-hectare (150 000-acre) Jao Concession embodies all the magic and mystique of Botswana with vegetation that varies from permanent swamps to dry land. In the east, the Jao Flats boast water channels that cut their way through the papyrus and reed beds, providing the perfect environment for wildlife. Beautiful lush palm islands dot the water.
The raised dining room, lounge and bar area all offer sweeping vistas of the surrounding floodplains and catch the gentle breeze blowing through the reeds. A plunge pool with loungers is just right for those sunny afternoon siestas. Around the Jao Flats spectacular herds of red lechwe are followed by the primary predators – lion and leopard. Other game includes tsessebe, elephant, hippo and crocodile. Sitatunga are seen occasionally, and sightings of spotted-necked otter are regular. Birding is exceptional in the Jao Concession, with Vulnerable wattled crane, slaty egret, rosy-throated longclaw, Pel’s fishing-owl, and lesser jacana to be seen in the wetter areas.
Activities at the lodge
Kwetsani Camp is able to offer excellent land and water activities. These are tailored according to the annual inundation levels and guests are able to view wildlife by mokoro or on outstanding day and night game drives. Game drives are conducted on Hundu Island during the flood season. Outstanding birding conditions exist on the Jao Concession; the offering of both water and land activities provides an excellent opportunity to add to your list of sightings.

Explore the rooms
For such a spacious camp there are only 5 rooms, all raised from 6 to 8 metres off the ground and access by a long raised walkway through the trees. You will almost always see the resident bushbuck under foot! The rooms have en suite bathrooms and a large wooden decking to compromise the view. The rooms are very spacious and not too large, but the perfect size and aided by height you get a cool breeze blowing through.
