Place of Elephants
DumaTau, on the banks of the Linyanti River’s Osprey Lagoon, is located close to the source of the Savute Channel, between two elephant corridors, offering an exclusive combination of land and river experiences. Wildlife is viewed during game drives, on nature walks, and while boating along the serene waters of the Linyanti River (levels permitting).
Duma Tau is in an ideal location in the northern regions of the Linyanti concession and benefits greatly by being on a flood plain of the Linyanti River. The camp is built under the shade of a huge mangosteen forest that looks over a large lagoon. The lagoon is fed from over flow of the Linyanti River and in high flood it is helped by a little spill from the Savuti Channel as the camp is located near the mouth.
The main area of the camp is quite large, but not insultingly big. When entering the main area, you have a very comfortable lounge to your left with various areas to relax in and a walkway leading off even further towards the pool and sun deck. On the opposite side is a covered dining area a long table and just forward of that towards the lagoon is an outdoor dining area. Down on the ground and central to all these areas is a fire and boma section
Activities at the lodge
The game area is great and in camp you will never be out of sight from the two resident elephant bulls that hang around all day – Bob and George, very polite beasts. Like most of the Linyanti area, the game experience is very seasonal, best from April to October when the big buffalo and elephant herds return. There is great walking in this area, as well as canoe safaris, night driving and game driving.
- Bird watching is a real treat with the Savute Channel being famous for its high concentration of raptors and eagles.
- The deck is used for an authentic and unique way to sleep out under the star-studded African sky.
Explore the rooms
The ten en-suite tented units (eight twin and two family) are raised off the ground with window-like netting providing a sense of space and dramatic views of the river. The architecture and interiors evoke a bygone age of exploration, carried through the main areas and ending on a floating fire deck. The Star Bed at Zibadianja Lagoon offers a thrilling perspective of the African bush at night.
All seven twin tents and one family unit have a private plunge pool and a comfortable lounge, and feature a large bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers.

"Design and furnishings in the camp are straight out of a travel magazine, and the location by the water is cooler than the surrounding dry areas."
