Safari for a cause

Chem Chem Lodge is situated on flourishing palm-island on the western edge of Chem Chem’s protected migration corridor. Chem Chem is a lifestyle lodge. It’s designed (successfully) as a place to enjoy and really take in the beauty. We do see their point. While safari is amazing, it is quite non-stop. Chem Chem offers a chance to take a step back and appreciate where you are, which is between a lake and a lush forest.

The lodge consists of an opulent main house and eight secluded tent-style suites. Each suite, has been created from a combination of canvas, lava-stones and wood, and they are set a minimum of 80 metres apart to ensure complete privacy. The permanent structure of the Lodge’s main house reflects the form of a flamingo with its wings spread wide for landing.

One wing holds the full service gourmet restaurant and an outside fire place, the other wing offers a bar, lounge, fire place and fully stocked private library. The Lodge also boasts a viewing deck with awe-inspiring views over Lake Manyara. Outside, a pool is hidden in the trees, a gym is available as are active experiences such as running with the Maasai and the Chem Chem Spa gives new meaning to complete relaxation.

Activities at the lodge

Conducted in a special Wildlife Management Area, with permission to undertake guided walks, a Chem Chem Lodge safari provides unique opportunities for up-close encounters of the wild kind. Although game drives in the private area are offered, the lodge provides an alternative set of activities that reflect the light game viewing. You can walk with the Maasai and run if you’re feeling fit, have sundowners on Lake Manyara, learn to track animals, learn to photograph animals and do cultural visits.

Highlights

  • Action packed game viewing in the Tarangire National Park and exclusive access to the migratory corridor linking the park and Lake Manyara.
  • Witness the flamingo migration at Lake Manyara.
  • Generously spaced private suites with views of the plains and lake.
  • Walking, running and village tours with the local Maasai.
